Last month, Sean Paul called out the Canadian artists Drake and Bieber for not openly crediting dancehall influences. Seems a little odd since that didn't stop him from dropping his vocals on the LUV (Remix), billboard track from Canadian rising star, Tory Lanez, this summer. LUV features quoted lyrics from Tanto Metro and Devonte's Everyone Falls in Love. This is the second round of shots fired from the dancehall scene since Mr. Vegas called out the 6ix God in May.
Personally, I'm a fan of all the artists stated above, and unless Drizzy is claiming the sound to be his own and unique, I see no issues. It's clear his music and collaborations with dancehall artists stem from an interest in the genre and intention of appealing to the audience, but does that make Sean Paul a hypocrite for collaborating with hip hop and R&B artist to do the same?
